Job Summary:
Under the supervision of the Assistant Vice President of Research and Analytics, the Assistant Director of Data Analytics works as part of a dynamic team within Enrollment Management and Student Success (EMSS) to supply coordinated, actionable data and information to support data-informed decision making at multiple levels. This position will work closely with leaders across the division to learn and understand their business goals and requirements while also navigating complex data sources. The qualified candidate will assess business questions, extract appropriate information from student information systems, create appealing visualizations in an accurate and timely fashion, and conduct necessary analytic and statistical procedures. The Assistant Director of Data Analytics is expected to work collaboratively within a dynamic team to learn new data sources and technologies toward producing high-quality analytics solutions for EMSS, and will be cross-trained to assume data extraction and reporting responsibilities across the team. Primary stakeholders include the Center for Career Exploration & Success, Admissions, Bursar, One Stop Services, Student Financial Assistance, University Registrar, EMSS Operations, and Student Success Center. This position is eligible for remote work on a hybrid basis. Remote work is not a right, but a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.
Duties/Physical Demands:
- Develop and manage data collection, storage, reporting, and analysis practices to evaluate goals and assess outcomes of Enrollment Management and Student Success units.
- Extract, manipulate, and combine data directly from primary and secondary sources using multiple technologies including ETL, SQL, Tableau Prep (or similar).
- Provides ongoing reports that interpret collected data using both appropriate research/evaluation methods and data collection techniques.
- Monitor, assess, and develop comprehensive reports on the impact of targeted interventions.
- Analyzes and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets. Interprets data and analyses using statistical techniques.
- Develop reports from internal and external industry surveys to share actionable insights with staff and entire university community.
- Create dynamic data visualizations to facilitate better data narration.
- Understand, validate, and test data and reports received from other units.
- Creatively, fully, and effectively solve analytical problems.
- Enhance skillset with data analytic tools and methods and learn new software as needed.
- Work in collaboration with assigned EMSS office staff to review data collection practices, goals, and time tables to create an accessible inventory and yearly calendar of projects.
- Write and organize the documentation of assigned office data policies and procedures.
- Produce ad hoc and recurring deliverables on time and with the highest quality.
- Represent the university at relevant events with external constituents, professional associations, and career and workforce development initiatives.
- Successfully manage multiple projects with complex needs and various timelines. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree, or an Associate’s Degree with 2 years of relevant experience. Strong background in technical or quantitative fields. Relevant combinations of skills and experience will be considered.
Desired Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Data Science, Information Science, Administration, Social Science Research, or a related field. Demonstrated experience with direct source data extraction via SQL, ETL, or related programming languages. Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or PowerBI. Experience with higher education data and business cycles. Experience in broad data analytic operations beyond reporting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skilled at creating a clear, accurate representation of data. Demonstrated ability to work quickly and accurately with attention to detail. Ability to manage multiple projects to meet deadlines. Good written and oral communication skills.
