Position Summary:
The Database Server Administrator is directly responsible for the Administrative Information Systems under the supervision of the Institutional Research and Planning Analyst. The Administrator plays a major role in making sure that the technologies provide users with flexibility in the management, access, retrieval, sharing and configuration of the data, systems analysis, and ensures the consistency and integrity of data.
This professional staff position requires working knowledge of departmental functions with user areas being supported by the AIS and maintain SQL functions, responsibility in coordinating the computer programming and operations staff in daily application execution and development.
Specific Responsibilities:
1. Assume all decision-making responsibilities in the absence of the Analyst.
2. Develop database solutions that satisfy the users need for high-speed access, multiple views of the same information, accuracy and security, and the sharing of information.
3. Set administrative information systems task completion priorities.
4. Oversee and produce reports/files for the data reporting to all internal users and external agencies.
5. Design and implement new application programs, processes, reports, or various file extracts for administrative use.
6. Determine best methodology to complete client projects, with limited assistance.
7. Conduct performance tuning of queries, reports and interfaces.
8. Acquire knowledge of the data to provide data conversions, data mapping, data manipulation, and data mining.
9. Understand key business processes and make recommendations for change based on system functionality.
10. Identify risks and data issues.
11. Provide database day-to-day maintenance, support, and troubleshooting.
12. Talk with appropriate administrators to determine informational needs, data flows and systems definitions.
13. Develop proper documentation procedures to assist the operations staff’s application program execution.
14. Provide data base security techniques that users can only be allowed access to specific data elements that are relevant to that user’s needs.
15. Provide programming and systems analyst support for all Administrative Information systems.
16. Manage ad-hoc reporting requests and write queries to deliver the required data.
17. Develop and maintain stored procedures.
18. Database scripting.
19. Assist with software updates released by the Administrative System software provider. This will ensure that the college is current with all changes made to the application software.
20. Provide day-to-day advice to users on data structures and terminology.
21. Provide training and support to users as needed to effectively deploy and support applications and database functions.
22. Provide help in creating new tables within the database system for users as needed.
23. Help create and maintain user-specific views within database system in relation to institutional dashboards.
24. Stay up to date on required internal and external reporting responsibilities.
25. Maintaining and creating interfaces between the various databases to connect them to Jenzabar One.
26. Perform other duties and activities as assigned.

Position Requirements:
- This position requires considerable experience in general computer operations, SQL and Microsoft Access, and preferred experience with Tableau software and implementation. Prior experience and knowledge of Jenzabar, ADP, and Canvas are a plus.
- Minimum of an Associate degree in computer science; Bachelor’s degree preferred; or
- Any equivalent combination of experience and education which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the duties.
This position requires a thorough knowledge of high-level computer programming languages and data base procedures. A good computer operations background is also necessary for fulfilling this position. This person is familiar with how to back up and restore data from a server, understands the business processes and applications being modeled by the database management system and, is thoroughly versed in relational database design, and is knowledgeable in SQL. Demonstrating the ability to work with employees as well as students is required.
